By Tressa Knox
Civil War Reporter
On September 17,1862 was the Battle of Antietam. The Battle of Antietam was a very bloody battle 5000 men were killed by the Confederate army within 20 minutes. The loss of about 14000 confederates forced General Lee to retreat to Virginia. General George McClellan obtained General Robert E Lee's plan to invade Maryland and inticipate the attack near Antietam Creek. Although he had this information he had no intintion on useing them because he thought it was a big joke. There were many places the union could have attacked the confederate. The Union won.
