Newspaper carrier FAQ

How much money can I earn from a route?
Profit from an average route of 300 papers is approximately $840 every 4 weeks, and over $10,900 per year.

How do I earn my money?
A carrier is an independent contractor and operates his/her own business. Carriers earn a fee for each daily and Sunday paper delivered. Routes have different fees based on the number of papers, mileage, and time.

Do I collect?
No. All subscribers pay through the office.

How long does it take to do a route?
On average, it takes about 2-3 hours to deliver route.

When do the papers have to be delivered?
The Free Lance–Star has a delivery deadline of 5:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 6:30 a.m. Saturday and 7:00 a.m. Sunday.

What happens when I want to go on vacation or I'm sick?
The Free Lance–Star carriers are independent contractors (not employees), so it is the carrier's responsibility to see that the route is delivered every day. The carrier is responsible for providing his/her own substitute.
