Tabitha's Story: See the entire series
Frank Hammon WFLS News reporter Tabitha LaRue is recovering from Tuesday's surgery in her battle against ovarian cancer. LaRue called the radio station news room from her hospital bed shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday to say "they got everything." She also explained that in order to remove a tumor of about 2 cm the team of doctors also removed the jugular vein along with part of her collarbone. Tabitha's husband Curtis is quite happy about the news and says the doctors explained to him that the tumor had also wrapped itself around a vein that goes to her voice box and esophagus. They were surprised that she didn't have voice problems. They added it's a good thing the surgery was done now and Tabitha had not waited. Her husband, Curtis, adds that Tabitha is not in a lot of pain as a result of this latest surgical procedure. He says "she has more freedom to move without pain." Previous surgeries were in the abdominal cavity and restricted movement. Tabitha says she expects to be released from Johns Hopkins sometime Friday with recovery at home expected to be at least two weeks.
