Lisk-Silva suspect confessed to other crimes: police

Date published: 7/2/2002

Before killing himself last week, Richard Marc Evonitz confessed to his sister that he'd killed before and that he was responsible for more crimes than he could remember, a law enforcement official said Tuesday.

"Now we're going to try and track his movements from the moment he was born to the day he died," said Richland County, S.C., Sheriff Leon Lott.

Also Tuesday, members of the local Lisk-Silva Task Force searched the Massaponax home where Evonitz lived in the 1990s with permission from the current owners.

Officials are trying to link Evonitz to the 1996 and '97 slayings of three Spotsylvania County girls -- 16-year-old Sofia Silva, 15-year-old Kristin Lisk and her 12-year-old sister Kati.

Spotsylvania sheriff's Maj. Howard Smith said investigators took samples from the house on South Fork Court during the three-hour search, sending evidence to the FBI lab in Washington.

Smith refused to say what authorities took from the house.
