Slavery Museum hires executive director
National Slavery Museum in Fredericksburg names executive director, adviser and board member.

Former Gov. L. Douglas Wilder has added a board member and two staff members to his National Slavery Museum in Fredericksburg.

Wilder, chairman of the museumís board, announced this morning that Earl W. Yates will serve as the museumís executive director. Yates was Africa Regional Director and South African Country Director for the Peace Corps.

Wilder also announced the appointment of Edward M. Robinson as the museumís senior adviser for development. Robinson was a development officer for Harvard Law School and for the University of Virginiaís Darden Graduate School of Business Administration.

Howard University President H. Patrick Swygert has been added to the museumís board of directors. Wilder and Hampton University President William Harvey are the boardís other members.

The museum is planned for 38 acres near Interstate 95 and the Rappahannock River in the Celebrate Virginia development. The museum recently opened an office in Uptown Central Parkís Executive Office Suites in Fredericksburg.
