A man accused of soliciting sex from five young Culpeper women has also been charged with brandishing a shotgun when they refused. Police say Steve Anthony Butler, 19, was driving down Main Street on the evening of Sept. 22 when he approached the women, four of whom were juveniles, sitting in front of the Culpeper County Administration Building. According to Investigator Chris Settle of the Culpeper Town Police, Butler parked on the wrong side of the street and asked the women "if they had anything to sell." When they rebuked him, Butler is alleged to have exposed himself and made racial remarks. A further rebuke, Settle said, prompted the suspect to produce a shotgun a few minutes later. The women swore out complaints and Butler was arrested Friday. He was charged with five misdemeanor counts of soliciting sex, one felony count of brandishing a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony. Settle said Butler also became disorderly when taken before a magistrate and had to be restrained. The suspect, who has a Rapidan address, was supposed to be serving a weekend in jail on a prior conviction when the alleged solicitation occurred. He is being held without bond. --Donnie Johnston
