'Wheelie' lands cyclist in trouble in Stafford

Date published: 10/1/2002

A speeding motorcyclist's escape turned out to be a temporary one Sunday, authorities said.

Stafford Sheriff Charles Jett said Deputy Rob Pomeroy was at the intersection of Warrenton and Greenbank roads about 12:50 a.m. when two motorcycles turned onto Greenbank. Pomeroy turned on his emergency lights after one driver accelerated to a high speed and "popped a wheelie," Jett said.

Pomeroy pursued the suspect for a short distance, but backed off because he thought it was too dangerous to continue, Jett said.

Deputies did stop the other driver and obtained information leading to the suspect, who was arrested later in the day. Joshua M. Dudley, 18, of Stafford County was charged with felony eluding and reckless driving.
