Friday's shooting outside Michaels Arts and Crafts near Spotsylvania Mall has been linked to a deadly spree earlier this week in Maryland and Washington, according to Spotsylvania sheriff's Maj. Howard Smith.

The woman shot in Spotsylvania survived. Six others died Wednesday and Thursday after being shot in Montgomery County, Md., and Washington.

Evidence from the Spotsylvania shooting was tested by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Saturday afternoon. The results showed that the weapon used in the shooting here matched that used in at least three of the other attacks.

A rifle bullet and a shell casing found along the road by Pizza Hut were among the evidence tested. The ATF called Smith about 6 p.m. Saturday to tell him of the match. Smith and Montgomery County officials held a press conference about 9:15 Saturday night to announce the findings.
