Date published: 10/10/2002 (Capitol Hill-AP) -- A ranking congressman wants an investigation of the sale of sniper rifles. John Conyers says they're "a real danger to the civilian population." He's the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee. Conyers has requested a Federal Trade Commission investigation of the marketing of military rifles to civilians -- amid a series of deadly sniper attacks around Washington DC. Conyers says there's no reason the weapons should be sold to ordinary Americans.
