Eagles win 10th game

The 10th-ranked Mary Washington College field hockey team used goals from five different players in winning their 10th game of the season, a 5-0 win at Sweet Briar College yesterday.

The Eagles have now won at least 10 games in each of the past six seasons.

Senior forward Shannon Nobile scored MWC's first goal at 14:22 on an assist from junior Meghan McMahon. After an unassisted goal by sophomore Amanda Mulhern, McMahon scored to make the score 3-0 at halftime.

In the second half, MWC got the first collegiate goals by freshmen Emily Cincotta and Pam Medley. Junior forward Emily Falvey had a pair of assists for the Eagles.

Mary Washington (10-2) will visit Roanoke College tomorrow at 1 p.m.

MEN'S SOCCER

The Eagles played to a scoreless tie in a Colonial Athletic Conference match against visiting Catholic yesterday.

MWC attempted 13 shots on goal against but failed to covert any off them into a goal.

Goalie Liam Garland recorded five saves for the Eagles, who record now stands at 7-3-2 overall, 2-0-1 in conference play.

VOLLEYBALL

Senior hitter Sarah Libby recorded game highs of 12 kills, 12 digs and eight aces as Mary Washington defeated visiting Villa Julie College 30-27, 30-24, 30-21 yesterday.

Lauren Eigel added six kills, six aces and nine digs for the Eagles (12-10), and Sarah Blehm recorded 17 assists.

MWC plays again on Oct. 18 at Marymount.

CLUB RUGBY

Mark Malone's 65-yard run for a try proved to be the decisive score in a sloppy match played yesterday at the University of Richmond, as the Eagles edged the host Spiders 7-3.

Malone took a lateral from Kevin Bradley on the scoring play, and Bradley kicked the two-pointer to put MWC ahead to stay.

Mary Washington improved to 7-1 on the season and faces an team of school alumni in its homecoming match on Oct. 19.
