A man has been shot and killed at Exxon on U.S. 1 at Four Mile Fork. The man was filling a 4-door Buick sedan at the gas station, and witnesses at the Ramada Inn near the station reported hearing a loud sound before the shooting.
The man was taken to Mary Washington Hosptial.
Police are stopping white vans with ladder racks throughout the area.
Local schools are in lockdown mode and are encouraging parents not to come to get children because of safety and traffic issues.
Stafford Superintendent Jean Murray said that children will be allowed to move about in the building, including lunch and class changes.
Police say they intend to hold a briefing within 20 minutes.
Like other recent shootings, this one happened within half a mile of an I-95 exit.
