Visiting North Stafford led late in the fourth quarter, but Albemarle scored with five minutes remaining in regulation to claim a 25-20 Commonwealth District win in Charlottesville last night. The Wolverines (3-3 overall, 0-1 district) had two possessions in the final five minutes, hoping to find the end zone once for the win. The first possession ended when the Wolverines couldn't convert on fourth down. North Stafford recovered a Patriots' fumble on the ensuing play, however, that drive ended on an interception with one minute to play. North Stafford's first-quarter touchdown came when James Plato picked up a blocked punt and returned it 35 yards for a score. That TD gave the Wolverines a 7-6 lead. North Stafford increased that lead to 14-4 in the second quarter, when Octavius Douglas scored on a 4-yard run. Albemarle scored the next two touchdowns for a 19-14 advantage. A 1-yard run by Don Brookins gave North Stafford a 20-19 lead midway through the fourth quarter. North Stafford returns to action on Friday when it travels to face county rival Colonial Forge at 7:30 p.m. <> <> <> North Stafford > <> 7 > <> 7 > <> 0 > <> 6 > <> -- > <> 20 > > <> <> Albemarle > <> 6 > <> 6 > <> 7 > <> 6 > <> -- > <> 25 > > >Charlottesville 26, Orange 0 Quarterback Cecil Turner threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns, and Curtis Johnson ran for 89 yards and a pair of scores as the Black Knights remained unbeaten.
