Date published: 10/20/2002 (Richmond-AP) -- The 37-year-old man shot last night in Ashland has undergone surgery a second time and a hospital spokesman says doctors have recovered the bullet that entered his abdomen. In another development, Montgomery County Police Chief Charles Moose asked during a brief news conference that the person who left a message at the scene of the Ashland shooting contact law enforcement. And Richmond area authorities have announced that schools will be closed there tomorrow, an action involving involve upwards of 200-thousand students. Henrico School superintendent Mark Edwards said the superintendents decided to close schools because of what he called the "volume of concerns" from parents and community leaders. The Ashland victim emerged from surgery this evening shortly before 10 o'clock. A spokesman at the Medical College Virginia hospitals in Richmond said the man remains in critical condition. The spokesman said the bullet retrieved from the man's body was sent to law enforcement officials.
