Date published: 10/21/2002 The superintendents of schools in the Richmond area have announced they will keep schools closed for a second consecutive day. In a press release this evening they agreed that due to "concerns which persist in the metro Richmond area as a result of the Ashland shooting, we have concluded that it is prudent for schools in Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico, and Richmond to remain closed tomorrow. The decision also supports the need for the concentrated deployment of police manpower and resources in this regional investigation." The statement continues to read "The community’s continued patience and understanding are requested as we attempt to keep the safety of our students, staff, and parents paramount in any decision regarding closing schools. We continue our dialogue with law enforcement and seek their advice." Twelve-month employees will continue to report to work as usual.
