Van Horn, Hanscom trot to victory

A field of over 500 runners took to the streets of Fredericksburg on Thanksgiving Day morning.

Jason Van Horn of Fredericksburg and Heather Hanscom of Alexandria were the overall winners in yesterday's Turkey Trot five-kilometer run in downtown Fredericksburg.

Van Horn finished the 3.1-mile race in 15:40, beating runner-up Jason Lewis to the finish line by 14 seconds. It marked his fourth victory of the year in the four Coldwell Banker Grand Prix series races that he has entered.

Yesterday's race, sponsored by Potter Homes and the Rappahannock Area YMCA, was the ninth of 10 series races for the season and attracted a field of over 500 runners.

Hanscom had a much easier time, winning the women's division by nearly a minute. She crosse the line in 17:48, well ahead of women's runner-up Debi Bernardes (18:45).

Masters division winners were Chuck Moeser and Ruth Olsen.

Because of technical problems, full race results were not available last night. They will be published when they become available.

The final race in the Coldwell Banker Grand Prix Series will be the Coldwell Banker Riverbank 12-kilometer run on Dec. 8.

Following are the top finishers in yesterday's race, as reported by race officials:

Men's division

Overall: 1. Jason Van Horn 15:40; 2. Jason Lewis 15:54; 3. Chad Walton 15:57; 4. Jonathan Gates 15:58; 5. Matt Gutridge 15:59.

Masters: 1. Chuck Moeser; 2. Ted Poulos; 3. Gregory West (times unavailable).

Women's division

Overall: 1. Heather Hanscom 17:48; 2. Debi Bernardes 18:45; 3. Amanda Masters 18:55; 4. Beth Mahalak 19:19' 5. Allison Masters 19:27.

Masters: 1. Ruth Olson; 2. Bernadette Flynn; 3. Anna Casillas (times unavailable).
