Will Chancellorsville be death knell of history?

Date published: 12/11/2002

I believe that the proposed Chancellorsville Project is not justified enough by the project's planners. First, the homes that would be constructed would be built on valuable Civil War land. In addition, the project would add even more traffic to our already congested area.

The Chancellorsville project would build 2,000 or more homes on Civil War land--on land where soldiers slept, ate, and fought. Companies have been trying to build on this precious land throughout the area for several years. If we give in now, will there be anymore historical land left 10 years down the road?

Furthermore, what about the traffic on State Route 3? Isn't it already busy enough? With dump trucks and other building equipment going in and out, the traffic will undoubtedly grow. And, to make matters worse, it takes a long time to build 2,000-plus homes, so, the traffic problems will stay for a few years. This doesn't even take into account the extra cars coming from the extra homes.

Consequently, I think that the Chancellorsville project is a complete waste of time, money and valuable resources. Civil War land will be destroyed, and the construction of many homes will increase traffic problems. As you can see, something must be done to stop this monster.
