French bashing occurring even in French-speaking Louisiana

French bashing is cropping up even in the land of French-speaking Creole and Cajun cultures.

There are calls in Louisiana to take back an invitation to French President Jacques Chirac (zhahk shih-RAHK'), due to his anti-war stance. He's scheduled to visit during a bicentennial celebration of the Louisiana Purchase later this year.

There are other signs of an anti-French backlash. The head of a group that promotes the French language in Louisiana says two teachers who were talking in French in a restaurant were approached by a waiter who voiced disapproval. The teachers were from Belgium.

Another official with that group says almost all of her friends from France have been harassed -- including people who have been living in the U-S for years.
