The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold two public meetings today on plans for up to two more nuclear reactors at North Anna Power Station.
The information meetings will be at 2 p.m. and at 7 p.m. at the Louisa County library.
Dominion Virginia Power, which owns the Louisa County plant, is preparing "early site" permits that would give it a head start should the utility decide to add reactors at the plant. There are two reactors there now.
The idea is to allow a utility to "bank" or designate a site for up to 20 years and to speed the application process.
Dominion is expected to begin work on the early site applications by July and to have them ready to file with the NRC by September.

Views on war in Iraq to be examined at MWC
Mary Washington College will host a panel discussion on the war in Iraq at 4 p.m. tomorrow in the Lee Hall Ballroom.
The event--titled "The Nation, The International Community, and the U.S. War with Iraq"--will be open to the public without charge.
The goal of the discussion is to provide an open, yet structured, environment in which to exchange informed viewpoints on the Iraqi conflict, said organizer Angela Pitts, assistant professor of classics. It will provide an opportunity for students, faculty and community members to be exposed to alternative perspectives on the war.
Several Mary Washington College professors will serve as panelists for the discussion. David Cain, distinguished professor of religion, is a specialist in dialogue among religions; Porter Blakemore, associate professor of history and American studies, is an expert in modern European diplomatic history and military history.
Mehdi Aminrazavi, associate professor of philosophy and religion, can speak authoritatively on Islam and the Middle East; and Jason Davidson, assistant professor of political science and international affairs, is a specialist in international security and the European Union's common foreign and security policy.
The program will be moderated by Anand Rao, associate professor of English, linguistics and speech, and director of the college's Speaking Intensive Program.

MWC program shows children joy of readingFredericksburg-area children can discover the joy of reading at "Reading is Fun" April 12 at Mary Washington College.
The Nu Xi chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, a national honor society for education, will host the event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Jefferson Square, located in front of Combs Hall. In case of rain, it will be moved to the Great Hall, located in the Woodard Campus Center.
The program will feature games, crafts, book readings, storytelling, face painting and pizza. It is intended for children in kindergarten through third grade, but children of all ages are welcome to participate.
All children must be accompanied by an adult. The event is free.

A new drop-off recycling center will open Saturday behind the Geico complex in southern Stafford County.
A grand opening for the Hartwood site will be held at 9 a.m. with the first 100 residents to arrive receiving a free recycling bin and environmental T-shirts.
The Hartwood center replaces one that closed in February. That one was across U.S. 17 at Berea Church Road on Dominion Virginia Power property.
The new site is off U.S. 17 at Stafford Lakes Parkway.
Stafford County's Office of Recycling and Litter Prevention operates the regional landfill and three other remote recycling sites.
The landfill is at 489 Eskimo Hill Road.
Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
All drop-off center sites are open Saturdays and Sundays from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Others include:
Rock Hill Drop-Off Center, Stafford Home and Garden Center, 700 Garrisonville Road.
Widewater Drop-Off Center, next to Taylor's One Stop Auto Service Center, 3542 Jefferson Davis Highway.
White Oak Drop-Off Center, Earl's True Value Hardware, 101 White Oak Road.
