Dear Stafford High School,
My name is Captain Marta DeVries. I was lucky to be one of the recipients of your "support boxes." Thank you so much for your goodies. My Marines and sailors will enjoy the candy. The support we receive from home and especially from young adults like you is encouraging and helps us get through the days. It is refreshing to see a group of High School Students that try to make a difference. It wasn't long ago that I was in your shoes (although I was a North Stafford Wolverine!) going through what I thought was one of the best times of my life and it is easy to forget about the big picture or what is going on outside "your world." It is awesome to see you take time out and give to others. After all that is what this is all about. This war isn't an easy one. It isn't easy for our troops, it isn't easy for our country, and it isn't easy for the Iraqi citizens but it is a necessary war. I encourage you to do research and study the history behind this war of Iraqi freedom. Have an opinion-even if it is anti-war-but have an opinion. Make it an informed opinion. Before you speak out (pro or against) make sure you know what you are speaking for. And one last thing...never forget how awesome it is to be an American. It is easy to take our liberty for granted living day to day with our cell phones and coffee bars, TVs, radios, and shopping malls. It is easy to take for granted our freedom when we are allowed to play sports and practice our own religion. These people can't and don't have those liberties. Our country is the greatest country in the world because we are free people. Freedom does not come easily nor does it come for free. Do your part to contribute to this great nation. Start by knowing about the war. Take care and thanks again. I am excited for the future of our
country with young adults like you as our future.
Semper Fidelis,
1. Be respectful. No personal attacks.
