A contractor working along U.S. 1 in North Stafford cut a fiber optic cable
about 2 p.m. yesterday, cutting off telephone service for businesses and
homes in the area, Verizon spokesman Paul Miller said.
The cut occurred just south of Aquia Harbour. Miller could not say how many customers lost service but said it was to have been restored by 7:30 p.m. The same contractor cut two small copper cables on Tuesday, temporarily eliminating some service until yesterday morning. Miller said fiber optic lines are much more quickly repaired. -Pamela Gould
