Bulldogs hand Wolverines first loss

North Stafford High School's girls soccer team dropped its first contest of the season last night, falling 2-1 to visiting Hylton in nondistrict action.

Marissa Mohammed gave the Wolverines (7-1) the early 1-0 lead off an assist from Amanda Bell.

Hylton got its goals late in the first half and again in the second on scrambles in front after corner kicks. The Bulldogs won despite being outshot 16-4.

Maria Mohammed played well defensively, holding Hylton's top scorer without a goal. Goalie Becca Cassi, who was scored on for the first time this season, made two saves for the Wolverines, who entertain Potomac tonight.

Faith Baptist 4, Mt. Carmel 1

Lindsey Hutcheson scored a pair of goals to help the Conquerors earned their second win of the season yesterday.

Rebecca Hader and Tracy LeMay also found the back of the net for Faith Baptist (2-4), and Melody Duvall and Ashley Shackleford played well also.

The Conquerors return to action Monday at Fairfax Baptist Temple Academy at 4:30 p.m.

BOYS TENNIS Orange 8, Charlottesville 1

No. 1 seed Andrian Juc improved to 12-0 on the season, and the Hornets rolled to a Jefferson District win yesterday.

Juc and Matt Fox posted shutouts for Orange (8-4, 3-2).

Singles: Andrian Juc (O) d. Josh Linden 10-0, Matt Fox (O) d. James Schroll 10-0, Jimmy Smith (O) d. Justin Tomlinson 10-6, Chance Moore (O) d. Zach Weiss 10-5, Eddie Stratton (O) d. Brian Remel 10-7, Steven Bill (C) d. Adam Critchfield 10-6.

Doubles: Juc-Smith (O) d. Linden-Schroll 10-2, Fox-Moore (O) d. Tomlinson-Weiss 11-9, Stratton-Critchfield (O) d. Remel-Bill 11-9.

SOFTBALL King William 5, Caroline 0

Caroline was back in action after a three-week break and fell to visiting King William yesterday.

Maddy Cooper and Michelle Kube had a single each for the Cavaliers (1-5), who struck out 17 times on the day. Caroline is back in action today when it plays host to Washington & Lee at 4.

TRACK AND FIELD Penn Relays

Fauquier sophomore Sarah Bowman placed second in the high school girls mile yesterday at the Penn Relays. Her time of 4:48.69 trailed only Ari Lambie of the Bromfield (Mass.) School, finished in 4:42.21.

Caroline's 1,600 relay team placed third in its heat (4:14.51).
