The Bible's clear: Homosexual activity is unholy

The Bible's clear: Homosexual activity is unholy

Date published: 6/11/2003

Cris F. Elkins' definition in a recent letter of eunuchs as "sexually deviant" is misleading ["What would Jesus do? Love and accept gays," May 30].

According to Webster's dictionary, a eunuch is "a castrated man placed in charge of a harem or employed as a chamberlain in a palace." A eunuch's job was to protect the women and not lie with them. Involuntary castration prevented this possibility.

Jesus did have a bad reputation among the Pharisees for associating with undesirables. Jesus was trying to show that God's love is for everyone. Our God is a god of second chances. However, God did not say it is acceptable to do what is unholy. Rather, if you repent of your sins, he will forgive you.

Jesus demonstrated this many times as he witnessed to the masses and instructed them to "sin no more." With this statement, he made it clear that these people were sinners who could still be saved, if they would sin no more.

In Paul's letter to the Corinthians, he covers the gambit of sins--including homosexuality--that will separate you from God. It would be safe to say that these sins would include a large percentage of what is practiced by the population today. However, it does not justify the sin, but gives us all hope that our God is forgiving if we will repent and sin no more.

Love the sinner, but not the sin. I am not judging (that is God's job), but I must discern what the Bible says is right from wrong. Homosexuality, like lying, is wrong. We all sin, but when we do, we need to admit it, alter our behavior, and ask for forgiveness.
