Preserve historic areas in Spotsylvania County

My name is Sarah, I'm 16 and I have lived in the Fredericksburg area my whole life. Where I live, people call it the country. Right down the road from my house is the Chancellorsville battlefield.

There was talk of contractors coming in and developing the area at one time. The idea of losing the battlefields to contractors is nauseating. Why would you want to lose Virginia's historic areas just for more stores and houses?

Now, I am a big shopper, but when it comes down to losing part of our history, it's not worth it. We need to preserve what history we have. Besides, more malls means more traffic and our area has enough of that.

So in conclusion, we need to keep our historic area the same and not change a thing.

Sarah Staples lives in western Spotsylvania County.
