'Republi-Crat' Chichester is a tax-and-spender

Date published: 9/3/2003

Regarding The Free Lance-Star's story ["Chichester: Bond rating at risk," Aug. 23], it seems that the good senator has once again shown his hand as a tax-and-spend "Republi-Crat."

The senator opines: "The blame would ride totally on the Republican General Assembly for not facing up to its financial obligations." Sounds like the senator is trying to spread some blame around as well as set the stage for a hefty round of tax increases.

He just loves spending our money, and the more of it we give him (and his cronies), the more of it they'll spend.

During the boom years, the commonwealth took our money and funded programs that were not traditionally funded by the state.

Now that we have experienced some lean years, I think it would be a great idea to start cutting back on those programs.

By a significant margin, Chichester won the Republican primary; however, a third of the Republican Party voted against him, mainly because of his tax-and-spend attitude.

Stand by, Virginia; the good senator is going to start making another run on our pocketbooks. It's time we told him to stop.
