Fredericksburg

Unity Church of Fredericksburg, 3607-B Lafayette Blvd., will host a healing and transformation evening using spirit-guided music and prose for opening the heart on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Advanced tickets may be purchased at the church for $17 or $20 at the door.

Living Word Fellowship Church, 1500 Stafford Ave., will host Pastor Tom Hamilton from Pleasantdale Church of God in Atlanta at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Hamilton and his wife, Brenda, are former members of Living Word Fellowship Church.

Tower of Deliverance Church, 1808 Princess Anne St., will celebrate 20 years next weekend. The Rev. Joseph D. Henderson will be consecrated to the office of bishop at the church at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27.

On Sunday, Sept. 28, a celebration banquet will be held at Holiday Inn Select, Central Park, at 5 p.m.

Spotsylvania County

Spotswood Baptist Church, 4009 Lafayette Blvd., will hold a Sunday school Growth Conference for all teachers and those interested in teaching, with Cliff Jenkins as instructor, Oct. 3 and 4. Jenkins is pastor of New Hope Fellowship, Springdale, Ark.

There will be a rally from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday, with age-graded workshops from 8:15 to 9:15 p.m. On Saturday, the rally will be from 9 to 10 a.m.; age-graded workshops from 10:15 to 11:15; a refreshment break from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m.; and workshops again from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Call the church at 898-0757 to register by Sept. 24. No child care will be provided.

Wilderness Baptist Church will hold its homecoming Sunday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Joe Stover as guest speaker. Dinner on the grounds will follow the service. An afternoon music program at 2 p.m. will feature Notorious and The Lakers.

Victory Bible Church, 12341 Five Mile Road, will hold a parenting class starting Sunday and continuing next Sunday, Sept. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Mine Road Baptist Church, 11111 Post Oak Road, will hold revival services Sunday at 6 p.m. and Monday through Wednesday at 7 p.m. each night. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Keith Williams from Sharon Baptist Church, Scottsville. Special music will be presented by the Autumnairs and choirs from Hebron Baptist Church, Edgewood Christian Church and Mine Road Church. A nursery will be provided each night.

Sylvania Heights Baptist Churchwill celebrate its annual homecoming Sunday. The Rev. William Smith, former interim pastor, will speak at the 11 a.m. service. A covered-dish lunch will immediately follow and a music program at 1:30 p.m. will feature All For One.

Massaponax Baptist Church will celebrate its 215th birthday today from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Fred Anderson from the Virginia Baptist Historical Society will be on hand to portray John Leland, an 18th-century Baptist character.

Brunswick stew, corn cakes, tomatoes, corn on the cob, fried pies, tea and lemonade will be on the menu. Music, games and train rides for the children will be included.

The Church of the Mall, which meets in the old theater complex at Spotsylvania Mall, is holding a "Healing the Land" workshop today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 7 to 9:30 p.m. Facilitators will be Dr. and Qaumaniq Suuqiina of Inuit Ministries International.

Eley's Ford Baptist Church, 10401 Elys Ford Road, will host its third Family Fellowship Day of the year from 3:30 to 8 p.m. today.

The day will be filled with activities and games for all ages. Featured music will be the Christian band "Shields of Faith." Food and beverages will be provided.

The church will celebrate its homecoming Sunday with a special musical service at 11 a.m., followed by food and fellowship on the church grounds.

Mount Hope Baptist Church, 6823 Harrison Road, will hold the annual King & Queen Freedom Fund Rally, sponsored by Spotsylvania NAACP Branch 7117, at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Guest speaker will be James Ghee, member of the NAACP National Board of Directors and chairperson for the Committee on Branches, Membership and Youth Work. Music will be provided by a combined youth choir from participating churches in the area.

Peace United Methodist Church, 801 Maple Grove Drive, is holding a community-wide health fair Saturday, Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Activities will include the American Red Cross bloodmobile; the mobile mammography van (appointments at 800/283-3291), screenings for stroke, diabetes, cholesterol and blood pressure; dental care information and games for the children.

Stafford County

Ferry Farm Baptist Church will host a Bible seminar "Walk Thru the Old Testament" on Oct. 5. The seminar utilizes interactive learning techniques to help people absorb and remember the key characters, geography and major themes of the entire Old Testament.

Floors are turned into maps as people sit or stand near Bible lands and waters. Hand movements and group recitations are included and in just five hours, everyone is able to master a survey of the Old Testament.

A "Kids in the Book" seminar will also be offered for children in grades 1-5. Child care will be provided for infants through kindergarten at no charge. The cost for an illustrated workbook, lunch and snacks is $6.50 per person.

Hollywood Church of the Brethren, 225 Ferry Road, will hold revival services with the Rev. Randy Cosner from Briery Branch Church of the Brethren in Dayton Sunday through Wednesday. The service Sunday morning will begin at 11 a.m., and Sunday through Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Stafford Free Will Baptist Church will hold its second annual Stafford Camp Meeting Sunday through Friday. The old-fashioned tent revival will include powerful preaching and gospel singing.

Services Sunday will begin at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.; Monday through Friday services will start at 7 p.m.

Hartwood Presbyterian Church will hold its annual homecoming celebration Sunday. Guest speaker for the 11 a.m. service will be the Rev. William E. Thompson, former Chaplain of Hampden-Sydney College. The service will be followed by a potluck luncheon in the Christian Education Center.

King George County

Little Ark Baptist Church, 15681 Owens Drive, will hold its 65th ushers anniversary celebration Sunday at 3 p.m. Guest preacher will be the Rev. Antonio Baker from Third Mount Zion Baptist Church, Woodford. Dinner will be served at 2 p.m.

Caroline County

Bethel Baptist Church, Paige, will hold its homecoming and revival services Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26-27, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m.

St. James Baptist Church, Milford, will hold its homecoming Sunday, with the Rev. Charles F. Baugham, pastor, delivering the 11:30 a.m. message. Guest minister at 3 p.m. will be the Rev. Marshall D. Burgess, pastor of St. Mark Baptist Church in Maidens. Dinner will be served following the service.

Burgess will also be the evangelist for the week of revival services Monday through Friday at 7:45 p.m. each night. Prayer and praise will start at 7:30 p.m.

There will also be a lecture session on evangelism each night at 6:45 p.m., led by the Rev. Hattie Wiggins. A light supper will be served at 6:15 p.m.

Guest choirs will present the music each night.

Zion Grove Baptist Church, Woodford, will celebrate the second anniversary of its pastor, the Rev. Lewis H. Johnson, at 11 a.m. Sunday. Minister Hausey Woodfolk III of Washington will be the worship leader and the Rev. John L. Pratt of Zion Shiloh Baptist Church, New York, will be a special guest.

Hopewell United Methodist Church will hold its homecoming Sunday with the Rev. James Durrett as guest speaker. Lunch will be served at noon, followed by special music.

Ladysmith Baptist Church will hold its homecoming Sunday. After the 10 a.m. service, a covered-dish fellowship will be held at the educational building. The Rev. Jamie Eads, pastor, will deliver both the morning and 7 p.m. messages.

Round Oak Baptist Church, Corbin, will hold a gospel sing Saturday, Sept. 27, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Featured guests will be The Bob Stone Group and Sonrise. Admission is free. A love offering will be received and a snack bar will be available.

Long Branch Baptist Church, Corbin, will host Keith Armstead and The Worship Team in concert Sunday at 3 p.m. The concert will benefit Donna Rollins, who is a 2003 Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority debutante. Light refreshments will be served after the program.

First Baptist Church, Woodford, will hold its annual Deacons, Trustees and Deaconesses Day Sunday at 3 p.m. Special guest will be the Rev. Bruce Mitchell from Mount Joy Baptist Church, Washington.

Westmoreland County

Morning Star Baptist Church will celebrate its homecoming at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Revival services Monday through Friday will start at 7:30 p.m. each night. Guest preacher will be the Rev. Anthony Jones from St. Stephens Baptist Church, King George.

Essex County

Ebenezer Baptist Church, Supply, will celebrate its 133rd anniversary Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 27 and 28. A banquet will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn Select in Central Park. At the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday, the Rev. G. Vincent Lewis from Mount Bethel Baptist Church, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and former pastor at Ebenezer Church, will be the guest speaker. Fauquier County

Silver Hill Baptist Church, Bealeton, will observe its annual Women's Day Sunday. Evangelist Tina Flowers will preach at the 11:30 a.m. service. At 3 p.m., Oak Grove Baptist Church congregation, Midland, will be the guests, with first lady Delores Jordan delivering the message. A dinner will be served at 2 p.m.
