Fashion tips for the clueless!

Date published: 9/23/2003

YOUTH CORRESPONDENT

TEP AWAY from the Vogue.

Take a step away from the high priced, low-class clothing stores.

Now, prepare yourself for the fall's true fashion!

Get the year off on the right foot

Or the left. Whichever you prefer. Either way, shoes are a mainstay in how you will fit in with people this school year.

Rule No. 1: Do not mix pairs of shoes.

Rule No. 2: Whoever said Converse was the new orange was so wrong. Especially if they said that orange Converse shoes were the new orange.

Stick to something that is comfortable, and within your budget. Don't go out and pluck down 35 maroons for a pair of shoes that are trendy.

When shoe shopping, remember an easy rule all of us forget at least once: Make sure you put both shoes on and walk around, to make sure that they can be worn for long periods of time.

Rule No. 3: If your choice of footwear is open toe, then be careful of clunky boots in front of your toes. The result could be bloody and extremely painful.

The cool shoes to watch out for:

Vans: These are generally comfortable, relatively inexpensive sneakers. Not only that, they come in many different colors and they look cool.

Doc Martens: You can never go wrong with Doc Martens. Find yourself a nice pair of Mary Janes if you are a girl. Guys, just find something that fits and requires you to have your shoes tied.

Remember: If your shoes can make you trip, you wasted money.

Girls, you don't have to spend loads of money on Doc Martens. Try going to Pay-Less Shoes, a thrift store, or something online like Delias.com. You'll be able to find something affordable, and possibly stylish.

One leg at a time:

Pants, pants everywhere, but which ones will actually fit?

Models in magazines wear skintight pants. But, that doesn't mean that everyone should.

Both guys and girls should try on different styles and see what works best with their body types. Also, make sure that you have shrinking in mind when it comes to washing your new pants. It would be bad to waste a good $40 on jeans that don't fit after the first wearing.
