Anthony Campbell selected as semifinalist to appear on NBC's Today show competition. Date published: 10/21/2003 It was all a big surprise. When the doors opened at the Saturn of Fredericksburg dealership and a camera crew rushed in to tell Anthony Campbell that he has been chosen as one of eight semifinalists for NBC's Today Show Superstar competition he didn't know what to say. He says, "I was blown away." Campbell's wife Ruth says she's thrilled and that all of their family and friends knew Anthony has what it takes. She says his actually sister pushed him into it and told him she wasn't leaving the house until he recorded an audition tape. The Campbells head to New York City on Thursday. Anthony will appear on the Today Show Friday and again Monday. If America likes him, he'll be back week after week to perform on national TV until he is either eliminated or wins. Votes are taken over the Internet and the winner gets a record deal.
