John A. Keating

John A. Keating, 85, a retired Army lieutenant colonel and veteran of World War II, and father of Maggie Jones of Spotsylvania County, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, Alexandria.

Mr. Keating enlisted in the Army in 1942. After the war, he transferred to Army intelligence. Following his retirement in 1962, he continued to serve the federal government in the Army Security Agency and Army Materiel Command.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, the Honorable Gladys Keating, a retired member of the Virginia General Assembly; his sons John A. Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth, Lawrence and his wife, Holly, and Michael and his wife, Kathy; daughters, Maggie Jones and her husband, David, and Eileen Carnaggio and her husband, Sam; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
