Mayor, at-large councilmen should be re-elected
Mayor, at-large councilmen should be re-elected

Under the leadership of this City Council, Fredericksburg is on an upward trajectory similar to the Spirit mission to Mars. The goals of the mission have been articulated and are being implemented by an energetic government under the guidance of a youthful, able city manager.
There is an upcoming city election, and there is no reason to change crew members. All should be re-elected to continue their fine efforts.
Mayor Bill Beck has a demonstrated capability to guide Fredericksburg toward its long-range goals, which he has persuasively defined. Always accessible, he has brought the community together through patience, interest, and empathy.
He has ties with the business community and with neighboring governments. He has imbued the council with a spirit of conciliation and cooperation so that the city's business is carried out professionally for its residents.
A lifelong resident, he has a sense and knowledge of city history so important for a balanced judgment when deciding issues.
Vice Mayor Scott Howson is the conscience of the city for, through his long service, he has the ability like no other to put issues in perspective. Always a positive force, even through years in purgatory, he is the transportation expert, serving on many regional transportation bodies.
He has been the prime mover behind the restoration of Maury School and his efforts are now becoming a reality through the Mary Washington College-James Monroe Museum-city coalition. He is a fervent advocate of cultural activities and works diligently as a volunteer at concerts and other civic events. He is truly a resident's advocate.
Councilman Joe Wilson is the council's devil's advocate. His piercing questions bring issues into focus. He has been an advocate for the homeless and has undertaken other crusades, which in some cases, were not initially popular.
Always quick with a quip, he brings a light touch to council meetings but can also eloquently speak to serious issues. A successful businessman on the board of many organizations, he is a longtime friend and generous supporter of the SPCA.
I urge voters to keep this crew together.
