Genevieve Bailey Rowe Hunter, 103, of Fredericksburg died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at her home. The daughter of Eugene H.C. Bailey and Martha Embrey Bailey, she was born September 5, 1900, at Mill Dale, near Eley's Ford in Spotsylvania County. She was the widow of Josiah P. Rowe Jr. and George L. Hunter Jr., to each of whom she was married for more than 25 years.

Mrs. Hunter was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church, the Rappahannock Valley Garden Club, the Mary Washington Hospital Auxiliary, the Ladies Memorial Association and the Fredericksburg Area Museum. She served on the Fredericksburg School Board and was a life member of the Kenmore Association. She had retired as bookkeeper at The Free Lance-Star and was an avid bridge player.

She is survived by three children, Charles S. Rowe of Vero Beach, Fla., and Fredericksburg, Josiah P. Rowe III of Fredericksburg and Diana R. Doran of Wellesley, Mass.; 11 grandchildren, Ashley R. Gould of Nashville, Tenn., Charles S. Rowe Jr. of Fredericksburg, Timothy D. Rowe of Chapel Hill, N.C., Jeanette R. Cadwallender and Florence C. Barnick, both of Fredericksburg, Sallie A. Roberts of Jenkintown, Pa., Josiah P. Rowe IV of Cheshire, Conn., Cynthia R. Swope of McLean, and Kathryn C. Doran, Arthur C. Doran III and Lee D. Thornton, all of Natick, Mass. She had 23 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hunter was predeceased by a brother, Charles Embrey Bailey; a sister, Florence Chancellor Bailey Hill; and a great-grandson.

A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. George's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. John Seville and the Rev. Joan L. Peacock officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to St. George's Episcopal Church, 905 Princess Anne St., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.
