We need to realize how outsourcing hurts U.S.

We need to realize how outsourcing hurts U.S.

Date published: 5/11/2004

I'm writing about the situation where jobs are diverted overseas. Am I the only person (I think not) who notices that when I call a company to place an order or check other credit-card services, I'm diverted to someone who speaks with an accent, namely someone in India?

Our country is experiencing such a huge loss in jobs because it is cheaper for corporations to divert them to overseas. Yes, they can probably do it cheaper, but what are we doing to our economy? And how does it affect our long-term economic picture for America?

Already the Bush tax cut has been negated (it's a joke) by the high prices at the pumps and in other ways. Food prices and other delivery costs rise because of the rising fuel costs. Really, are we believed to be so stupid?

Too many times, I plan to order something, and I can tell the call is with someone other than an American, mostly Indians.

I have nothing against India, but I would like to know how this saves us, as Americans--and also, importantly, how it bene- fits the corporations who are allowed to do this. Is there a big tax break?

I feel we have become so complacent because we as Americans want what we want, and we want it now, and we don't stop to think of the consequences or harm we are doing to ourselves.
