BASEBALL Caroline 5, Spotsylvania 4

Caroline's Michael Williams quickly atoned for a dropped fly ball, making a strong and accurate throw to pitcher Tyler Wright, whose relay home was in time to cut down the tying run and end the game.

Wright capped a four-run fourth for the Cavaliers (8-9-1, 4-4) with a two-run single. The inning also featured a run-scoring single by Williams and a suicide squeeze by Bruce Adair.

Wright was three-for-three at-bat and also picked up a save. Williams, Kevin Miller and John Pitts of Caroline and Spencer Johnson of Spotsylvania finished with two hits apiece.

Up next is the Battlefield District tournament being played at Courtland. The Cavs oppose the Cougars in Wednesday's semifinal action.
