Virginia Cooperative Extension offers new program Date published: 6/3/2004 From larger portion sizes to the pressures to be thin, obesity and eating disorders are growing among young children. Nutrition specialist Elena Serrano says the Virginia Tech Cooperative Extension is offering "Healthy Weights for Healthy Kids". It's a program that focuses on proper nutrition, physical activity, and positive body image, which are important for children to achieve and maintain healthy weights. Serrano says the program is about being smart. It focuses on smart food and snack choices, smart activities for kids, and smart image. "Healthy Weights for Healthy Kids" is a program through the Virginia Cooperation Extension. For information on classes you can call the local extension office.
