Health officials checking possible salmonella links to convenience store
At least 140 people in Pennsylvania and West Virginia have been sickened by salmonella

Date published: 7/21/2004

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Health officials in Virginia, Ohio and Maryland are waiting on test results to see if 31 salmonella cases are linked to food from a convenience store chain.

At least 140 people in Pennsylvania and West Virginia were sickened by salmonella after eating food from Sheetz stores.

Health and agriculture officials say an unopened bag of tomatoes from a West Virginia produce supplier tested positive for the bacteria, but not the strain responsible for sickening people who ate food from Sheetz stores.

The supplier, Coronet Foods, says tests turned up no contamination at its processing plant but it will still stop buying and processing Roma tomatoes.
