Team bounds into town
A trampoline show that teaches positive character traits and good decision-making comes to King George Elementary School next Thursday

Date published: 11/11/2004

The unlikely combination of trampolines and good decision-making is coming to King George Elementary School next Thursday.

The school is hosting The Pro-Action Team for a full day of motivational assemblies, workshops and a community program.

Team members Charles Manning and John E. Smith present a high-energy trampoline performance that incorporates comedy and dramatization, according to the Pro-Action Web site. The team travels across the country teaching children about the positive things they can do with their lives.

The show encourages young students to say “yes” to talent, “yes” to school and “yes” to life. The intent of the Pro-Action program is to help prevent substance abuse, violence, smoking and other negative behaviors.

“It’s about making good choices and exercising good character traits,” said Ronald Monroe, King George Elementary School principal.

Throughout the day, each grade level will see the trampoline show. There also will be a faculty meeting, where teachers can hear about ways they can bring what the students learned at the assembly into the classrooms.

Then, at 6:30 p.m., the Pro-Action Team will hold a special performance geared toward parents. All students and their families, along with the public, are invited to the free hourlong evening event.

Monroe said the PTA at King George Elementary School decided to host the Pro-Action day after hearing about its success at nearby Potomac Elementary School.

“They thought it would be a good opportunity for the kids,” Monroe said. “You always hear about good character traits, but it’s good to see it.”
