Here are my Christmas gifts to you all, well in advance Date published: 11/29/2004
To my fellow citizens I give the following gifts for Christmas. They aren't much, but as the Christmas season draws closer, I hope that in some small way these gifts might be a blessing to you. If I see you trying to get into a long line of traffic, I will let you in. If we are both after the last carton of eggnog, I will not shove you out of the way to get it. If I see you with one item in the checkout lane behind my cart, I will let you go first. If we come to the last mall parking space at the same time, I will let you take it. No "spend, spend, spend" commercials, advertisements, or frenzied crowds will keep me from treating you with decency. I don't want anything, but maybe you can buy one blanket for the Thurman Brisben Homeless Shelter instead of "Grand Theft Auto." Instead of "The Exorcist," maybe you can watch "It's a Wonderful Life." I'd be honored to share a pew with you on Christmas Day, giving thanks for God's gift to us. That's the real reason for the holiday. But whether you accept the gift or not, I'll still give you that last parking spot. Peace and love. Bob Liepelt Spotsylvania
