Mary B. Lambert

Mary B. Lambert, 80, of King George County, formerly of Hyattsville, Md., died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Born Jan. 12, 1924, in Piney Creek, N.C.,she was the widow of John Paul Lambert, who preceded her in death in 1996. They married Nov. 9, 1946. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Tom Wayne Black, and a sister, Dorothy Vestal, both of Piney Creek.

Surviving is her daughter, Mary Catherine Walters and her husband, Johnny, of King George; her son, John Curtis Lambert of Gaithersburg, Md.; and her brother, Troy C. Black of Sparta, N.C.

After graduating from Braughn's Business School in Winston-Salem, N.C., Mrs. Lambert began her federal government career in Washington, D.C., at the General Accounting Office. She continued her career at the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Md., where she retired as the chief of payroll in 1983. She received numerous awards, including the Meritorious Civilian Service Award.

Mrs. Lambert was a loving, devoted wife and mother. After her retirement, she enjoyed reading, bird watching, sports and tending to her flowers. Everyone who knew her loved her. She had a heart of gold and a kind word for everyone. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Friends may call at Gasch's Funeral Home P.A., 4739 Baltimore Ave., Hyattsville, Md., on Tuesday, Dec. 7, from 7 to 9 p.m., where a funeral will be held Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Md.
