Police say boy ran through glass door in failed attempt to elude them

A Spotsylvania County boy is in detention, but police say he didn't go easily.

The 17-year-old ran through a closed sliding glass door Monday trying to elude deputies before he was finally apprehended in a nearby garage, authorities say.

The boy suffered some cuts and abrasions but was not seriously injured, sheriff's Maj. Michael Timm said.

According to Timm, Fairfax County police contacted Spotsylvania on Monday and asked to have the boy picked up in connection with a probation violation there.

The boy, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, is also a suspect in an armed robbery in Fairfax, Timm said.

About 2:30 p.m., deputies went to look for the boy at a home in the 10000 block of Musket Road, off Orange Plank Road.

The boy's guardian led police to the child, who was on a living-room couch. A deputy tried to take him into custody, Timm said, but the boy pushed him into a wall and ran down the steps.

He ran through the glass door and its screen, Timm said. Two other deputies who were waiting outside joined in the chase, but couldn't immediately catch the boy.

A short time later, a woman who lives on Spring Creek Drive saw the boy run into her garage. She flagged deputies and pointed out where the suspect had gone.

The boy was taken into custody without further incident. He was charged in Spotsylvania with assault and battery, obstruction of justice and breaking and entering.
