Emergency landing

Some tense moments yesterday afternoon for the pilot of a small plane as he flew over Caroline County.

State police Sergeant Kevin Barrick says the Cessna 152 piloted by 35-year old Arthur Thorpe of Washington encountered engine trouble while flying at 4,000 feet. Thorp was forced to find a place to put the aircraft on the ground and that place just happened to be U.S. 17 near Port Royal.

As the plane touched down on the road it's left wing struck a sign post, sending the plane into the median. Neither Thorp or his passenger Dawn Jones was injured.

The plane was enroute from Raleigh, NC to Clinton, MD.

The FAA is investigating.
