Let's quit fighting over feral cats--and help them out! Date published: 3/25/2005
As I sit on my deck at my farm on this lovely spring morning, I watch not only my horse, but the frolicking feral cats that have been rescued by Thea Verdak and Meghan Parker, who represent the Rappahannock Humane Society. These few lucky cats have spent the winter here with my horse in his run-in shed, not being poisoned, shot, or frozen to death during the hard winter we just experienced. Certainly relocating cats to farms is not the only solution to the problem; it's just one of the creative ideas generated by Ms. Verdak and Ms. Parker. I find it distasteful that the leader of another rescue group would criticize members of a humane group that is, in fact, working as hard as these two empathetic, kind, dedicated individuals ["Feral cats are not miserable and don't need rescuing," March 17]. We all need to work together to help--not backbite and criticize. Georgia Strentz Spotsylvania
