RICHMOND (AP)--Monica Wright and Ashleigh Braxton led a furious fourth-quarter rally that propelled Forest Park to within one victory of its second Group AAA girls' state championship Wednesday with a 64-57 victory over Oakton. The triumph, the 26th in succession for the 26-3 Bruins, moved them into Saturday's 3 p.m. championship game at VCU's Siegel Center. Forest Park, ranked No. 3 in the final Associated Press poll, fell behind early in the second quarter and never caught up until Wright, who finished with 20 points, hit a basket with 2:26 left in the game. Princess Anne 62, W.T. Woodson 47RICHMOND--Britne' Rodgers and Megan Masch scored six points each as Princess Anne bolted to an 18-3 lead in the first six minutes and never looked back in cruising past W.T. Woodson 62-47 Wednesday night in the semifinals of the state Group AAA girls' basketball tournament. The fifth-ranked Cavaliers, now 27-3, will play for the title at 3 p.m Saturday in VCU's Siegel Center against No. 3-ranked defending champion Forest Park, 26-3, which won a regular-season matchup between the two teams by 37-33. W.T. Woodson's 15-point loss seemed respectable only because the losers staged a 23-8 run in the fourth period after falling behind by 48-24 in the opening minutes of the fourth period. BOYS BASKETBALL Landstown 68, Wakefield 63RICHMOND--Ryan Goings gave Landstown its first lead of the game with 1:06 left and Percy Harvin preserved it at the foul line Wednesday as the unheralded Eagles upended previously unbeaten Wakefield 68-63 in the semifinals of the state Group AAA boys' basketball tournament. Landstown, 25-4 with victories in its last two starts over No. 1-ranked unbeaten Potomac and No. 3 Wakefield, will play for the state title at 5 p.m. Saturday. The Warriors, 28-1, who won a state title in 1961 with an unbeaten team, led virtually all the way before finally caving in to the relentless press put on by the Eagles. Woodside 80, Lloyd Bird 66RICHMOND--Calvin Baker almost outscored Lloyd Bird by himself in the first half Wednesday night as he led Woodside's defending champion Wolverines to an 80-66 victory in the semifinals of the state Group AAA boys' basketball tournament. Baker scored 25 of his 32 points in the first 16 minutes as the Wolverines, 29-2, built a 47-26 lead and cruised into Saturday's 5 p.m. title game at VCU's Siegel Center against Eastern Region rival Landstown, whom they defeated 66-63 two weeks ago. The defeat ended a brilliant career for Lloyd Bird's Tyrese Rice, who fouled out with 3:02 left with 22 points that pushed his career total to 2,328, the most ever by a Group AAA player.
