Stafford County's Public Safety Committee and volunteers for fire and rescue went head to head Wednesday night. Date published: 3/16/2005 Stafford County's finest came out in numbers with standing room only at the Fire and Rescue Town Hall meeting. Falmouth's Fire Captain Kevin Good stood out among other volunteers as he strongly spoke that the Board of Supervisors just isn't listening to their comments and concerns. It's been almost a year since the Committee met with fire and rescue volunteers, after breaking a 90 day promise. Widewater's Chief Tolson begged the Board to listen to them, "We're all going to die someday, but if you listen to us, we can prolong that by taking someone to the hospital or pull them out of fire...yell at me, but don't mess with my firehouse or my community." The Committee reminded all of the audience that the number one priority of the Board is fire and rescue. Still, volunteers were upset that they're input on the four new firehouses and the hiring of a new fire and rescue chief will go unheard. Reality did set in at the meeting, when two different crews had to run out the door to answer calls.
