The Virginia Health Department wants public opinion on how to spend a 26 million dollar state and federal grant. Date published: 3/22/2005 For the first time ever, you can log onto the Virginia Health department's website to fill out a survey to voice your opinion on how the state should spend a 26 million dollar state and federal grant. Spokeswoman Janice Hicks says it only takes a couple of minutes to make sure every dollar counts for the mothers and children of the commonwealth. The Maternal and Child block grant is assessed every five years to see if the money is being appropriately used. Hicks says the assessment will identify the most effective services for families, especially low-income. In 2000, the assessment showed a problem with children's obesity and an ongoing need for screening of childhood diseases. Hicks also says it's very important to fill out the online survey to make sure the state spends wisely with the nation facing inflation.
