Consultant will seek Culpeper treasurer seat

Kerst ter Weele, a 36-year-old Washington financial consultant, has filed to run for Culpeper County treasurer in the November special election.

Ter Weele, who lives in the Rixeyville area, will seek the post vacated when Steve Southard resigned May 31. There will be two years left on Southard's term after a permanent replacement is chosen.

Ter Weele grew up in Fauquier County, graduated from Fauquier High School and later obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia. He also did postgraduate work at Virginia Tech.

Married with four children, ter Weele now works for Raymond James.

Ter Weele will have at least one opponent in November. David DeJarnette, who was appointed interim treasurer two weeks ago, has announced his intention to seek the job on a permanent basis.
