Our culture's thinking is skewed on life-and-death matters

Date published: 6/21/2005

I was struck by the paradox of two June 4 headlines. First, "Jury spares Whitten," then right across the page, "Late-term abortion ban struck."

A murderer's life is spared, and the innocent is condemned to die. The "great concern" seems to be that there is no provision in the law to save the mother's life.

There is no way that this horrible execution of a 24-28-week neonate is necessary to save the mother's life. These babies can be taken very quickly by Caesarean section delivery, saving the life of both the mother and the baby.

This late-term abortion "procedure" was once a hideous crime and now is declared a constitutional right by activist judges. We must, through our legislative and executive branches of government, place boundaries or restrictions on the handful of judges who have seized control and are directing the nation to conform to their own ideas.

I speak from my knowledge as a professional nurse with 13 years of experience in a well-known teaching hospital and trauma center in southern California.
