James A. Powell
James A. "Billy" Powell, 79, of Colonial Beach died Thursday, June 23, 2005, at Mary Washington Hospital. Mr. Powell was a retired dock builder, waterman and owner of the Colonial Beach Oyster Packing Co. and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Pierce Powell. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy P. Cokinos of Rockville, Md., and Jennifer Stewart of Colonial Beach; three sons, James A. Powell Jr. of Colonial Beach, Michael W. Powell of Ashland and James C. Powell of Colonial Beach; a stepson, Berkley Muse and his wife, Nancy, of Colonial Beach; two sisters, Margaret Gutridge of Washington, D.C., and Alice Beck of Oak Grove; four brothers, Thomas Powell of Colonial Beach, Russell Powell of Colonial Beach, Julian Powell of King George and Douglas Powell of Sarasota, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 27, graveside in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fredericksburg. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach.
