I read with disdain Thomas Johnson's op-ed ["The brutality of war will continue as long as society endorses it," July 13]. I believe the University of Mary Washington should seriously reconsider having this man educate our young men and women. I wonder if professor Johnson realizes that many of his students would not be able to attend any college or university (especially one as prestigious as Mary Washington) without the benefit of our armed services--who, might I add, thus pay his salary. I have seen young men and women who feel they have no direction out of high school come out of the military as proud, confident adults. No one likes war, but I feel we must always support the military--those proud men and women who are dying so that people like professor Johnson can exercise his right to free speech, with the sole purpose of selling his book.
