The Gathering Band isn't just another Christian band. Promise

Music isn't new, and Christianity isn't, either. So why should one take the time to listen to Mount Ararat Baptist Church's group The Gathering Band?

Perhaps because both of those things are still around because they mean a lot to a lot of people.

"We're not out there to force our ideas or message on anyone it's simply that our hearts are so full of joy and love for our God that we can't help but tell others about him," said Becca Bass, the lead singer and coordinator of the band.

TGB's main function is to lead worship once a month during a Gathering service for any young adults in the area wanting to come enjoy fellowship and worship that's as God-focused as possible.

The band members see themselves as a few of many artists simply leading the way and being "as transparent as possible."

"We have no desire to take any of the glory or credit for ourselves, because we know all of it belongs to God alone," said Bass.

Christian rock bands aren't all that uncommon anymore, but this band's music style is certainly unique, combining everything from an American Indian flute to a piano to a mandolin, then including three backup vocalists to try to communicate something that is ultimately bigger than sounds or words.

"'Christian music' is a term, but 'worship music' is what happens when those songs bring you to a deeper realization of who God is," Bass said. "TGB writes and performs worship music because we believe that God deserves all of who we are."
