Emmy L. Sommers
Emmy Lou Sommers, 82, of Bowling Green departed this life Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005, at Bowling Green Health Care Center.
Born Emma Walthall Sommers to E. Frederick and Annie Sommers of Somerset, both deceased, she was later adopted by Louis Z. and Ethel Sommers of Stamford, Conn., both deceased, and her name was changed to Emmy Lou Sommers.
She was a dedicated nurse who served in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II. After retiring from 47 years of nursing, she moved back to Virginia.
She is survived by two sisters, Anne S. Willoughby of Bowling Green and Mary Virginia S. Wilson of Columbus, Ga.; one niece and nephew-in-law, Sharon W. and Frank L. Benser of Bowling Green; two great-nieces, Kathryn B. Adkins of Gordonsville and Stephanie B. Sprouse of Charlottesville; and two great-great-nieces, Jessica L. Adkins and Hannah Anne Sprouse.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, Oct. 2, at 2 p.m. in Mount Nebo Lutheran Church cemetery in Rochelle.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to any charitable organization of choice. Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, is handling the arrangements.
