Time for Spotsy to get in on the VRE experience

The citizens of Spotsylvania County voted overwhelmingly in favor of the recent transportation bond referendum ["Spotsylvanians OK bonds," Nov. 9].

This strong 61 percent vote should encourage the Board of Supervisors to join the neighboring transportation commission that funds the operations of the Virginia Railway Express. It should also encourage the supervisors to issue bonds to build a train station.

For 13 years, VRE has rescued Spotsylvanians from the gridlock, tractor-trailer crushes, and fatal accidents that plague Interstate 95.

This superior rail service allows the people of the county to spend more time with their spouses, children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

In December, CSX will complete a major track-maintenance project on the Fredericksburg line. This should improve on-time performance.

The VRE brings the voters of Spotsylvania safely home to the ones they love. Every weekday, more than 900 riders validate the truth of this statement.
